Woodstyx -  by Laura Deverson

Orpheus, demigod of music, has lost his love Eurydice. She was killed and taken to the realm of the dead. Orpheus was able to convince the Lord of the Dead, Hades, to release the soul of Eurydice but under one condition, he had to leave the realm of the dead without looking back to see if Eurydice was following. Unfortunately, curiosity overcame our young hero and as he turned to look upon his lost love she was pulled back into the realm of the dead forever.

WoodStyx begins with the heartbroken Orpheus annoying every god and goddess on Mount Olympus with his mournful songs. Zeus, God of all gods, summons his son Apollo to take care of Orpheus or he risks being demoted to a village deity.

Things are also not going smoothly for Hades, Lord of the dead, either. In his underworld realm, Hades is facing a mass revolt. The shades awaiting transportation to the underworld, across the river Styx, are bored beyond death. Charon the ferry man, is going on strike and of all days to have it, he is having something of a wardrobe malfunction.

It is at this point that Orpheus, Apollo and his assistant Cyrene concoct a plan to rescue Eurydice from the underworld. Apollo travels to the Underworld to barter a deal with Hades. In exchange for entertaining the impatient souls lining the river Styx, Hades will release the soul of Eurydice….or so he says.

Woodstyx is a musical comedy of love, loss, betrayal and music festivals, with a mixed cast of vain gods, vindictive goddesses, muddling muses and united denizens of death. It includes music from Joe Cocker, Stephen Stills, James Brown, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner.
